Is it okay to love other cultures too much?
It was the question that had been revolving around Suji, founder of Seoulbox, for her entire life! She loved Spainish pop songs, Japanese dramas, English bands, so on and so forth. In a little conservative Korean classrooms between EXO (they were the class idol back then!) and Spartan high school courses, her journey faced its own challenges. After reading on newspaper that her favorite author Richard Dawkins founded a college in London, she decided to study there. It was not about the college; it was more about experiencing the cultures she loved!
K-POP WAS A SUBCULTURE IN LONDON. SITUATION REVERSED!
For the first couple of years, Suji tried to escape from Korea and immerse with London much as possible. She has quickly found a surprising secret: her friends loved K-Pop and K-Dramas! In her 2nd year, her best friend founded the first Korean Hallyu society of their college. Over 10 new members indulged in Korean BBQ, toasted with Soju, and practiced Kill This Love choreography. Growing the Hallyu community together, Suji got to realize that Korea is a new, exciting world to them, just like other cultures were to her. She founded Seoulbox to empower her friends' passions for Korea. Ironically, by delivering authentic Korean tastes, sounds, flavors, scenaries, and feelings, she could finally answer her lifelong question: "Is it okay to love other cultures too much?" Seoulbox started from the love and appreciation to other cultures in 2019, and fulfills the mission to empower every Korean lover's own journey to Korea.
